A list of upcoming weekend events:
- Oktoberfest Zinzinnati. Just one of our fine city's many Oktoberfest events, Oktoberfest Zinzinnati is the largest. There's going to be bratwurst, beer and plethora of German musicians with accordions. It runs from 11 a.m.-midnight on Saturday and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday on six blocks of Fifth Street, from Race to Broadway. It's free to get in, but if you're going you're probably trying to get drunk. Bring cash.
- The Gypsy Hut has free music all weekend (Wye Oak and I Love You play Saturday), a relaxing patio and apparently the pizza window is now open. I've heard it tastes pretty good, not like anyone will be sober enough to care.
- The Southgate House has stuff all weekend. Autumedia 2008 features the best new stuff in local/national/international media arts, including work from former Cincinnatian Andre Hyland and Blond Chili Productions. Admission is only $6. The Sundresses are holding their CD release party at da' House on Saturday with The Turnbull AC's. And that costs a measly $7.
- The C&D says their holding a benefit Saturday night for Northsiders who missed work because of the blackout. "Hey, if you have missed work from the blackout, we are having a benefit for ya all this saturday. So if you want to DJ or have fun and are broke from the windstorm and aren't being reimbursed from your employer, this is for you." Or you can go spend more money on drinks and commiserate with your broke friends.
- Also a ton of stuff going on at Shake It. There's a Seedy Seeds listening party at 7 p.m. Friday. They claim "We’ll have special gifts & treats on top of the fact ya get to hang with the Seeds & hear the album a FULL MONTH EARLY!" On Saturday "We’ll have the two authors of a couple of the latest in the 33.3
series - those being Bob Gendron’s book on the Afghan Whigs Gentleman
&
local-boy-done-good Jeff Roesgen’s volume on The Pogues’ Rum Sodomy
& The Lash. It’ll
be a meet with & a talk by the authors about both of these ground
breaking records & their
impact(s) on pop culture." Sounds good to me.
- The Lovely Crash, the Fairmount Girls and My My My play the Northside Tavern Saturday.
- In other news, there are plenty of other events going on in the city and in your neighborhood. Go find them or tell me about them. I'm also on the hunt for information on good drink specials and happy hours. Or parties. Everyone loves parties.
