Studio 89, the excellent summertime live music series that airs concerts on WNKU (89.7 FM; wnku.org), begins tonight. Now six years old, the series has featured a mix of local, regional and national performers. As well as being simulcast on the radio, listeners are invited to attend the performances in the station's Highland Heights studios. Due to the popularity of being a studio audience member, those wanting to attend will need to enter a lottery (fans can enter the lottery on the station's Web site). The shows take place at 9 p.m. each Monday (save July 7) through Aug. 11.
The series starts off with a bang tonight with jubilant Indie/Electro/Pop duo The Seedy Seeds. Future featured artists include Celtic rockers The Elders (June 23), local duo Lines and Spaces and Screaming Cheetah Wheelies founder and Double Trouble collaborator Mike Farris (Aug. 11). Several slots have yet to be filled.
