What's Happening Now: Tuesday, April 1
In Da News: Today, be even more skeptical of what your read on the ’Net, as many have again decided it would be hi-freakin'-larious to post fake news in honor of April Fool's Day. Some of the false reports so far: Amy Winehouse is guesting on Dr. Who (from NME — apparently this is funnier if you are British) and is starting a line of beehive hairdo wigs called "Wino" (from Gigwise); Liam Gallagher of Oasis was caught streaking in the U.S. (from an Oasis fan site); Axl Rose is bypassing record labels and releasing Chinese Democracy through a Dr. Pepper promotion (from Anti-music); the RIAA is cracking down on funeral parlors that don't pay publishing fees for the songs they play during ceremonies (also from Anti-music); The Foo Fighters did an acoustic show in Australian (the only funny part is that hundreds of fans showed up as a result of the joke announcement on a radio station); and R.E.M. released its new album today (oh wait, that's real). For the nerds, Google's prank involved launching a new email option to send mail from the past (I guess it's an IT thing — we wouldn't understand). We here at the Spill It blog wouldn't be so crass to pull such stunts. Though, this just in — this year's MidPoint Music festival will be held on a farm in Milford and Molly Hatchet is headlining. Really.
On This Day: What music "stars" are April Fool's babies? Here's a list: Rudolph Isley (Isley Brothers, born in 1939); Ronnie Lane (Small Faces, born in 1946); Jimmy Cliff (Reggae legend, born in 1948); Jeff Pocaro (Toto drummer, born in 1954); Method Man (Hip Hop star, born in 1971); and Nico Breen (cutest, coolest little kid in the world, born in 2004). Also, unfortunately not a joke, Marvin Gaye was shot to death by his father on this day in 1984.
Tonight: Guitar hero (a real one, not the lame video-game kind) Robin Trower brings his Blues/Rock to Bogart's tonight for an 8 p.m. performance. Local Blues/Rock guitar hero Sonny Moorman and his band open. Read Brian Baker's preview here and find show details here.
