The coronation of Sen. Barack Obama as the officially official Democratic nominee for president begins today in Denver, as the Democratic National Convention kicks off with lots of speechifying. Among the schedule highlights today are Michelle Obama, his half sister Maya Soetoro-Ng, a whole bunch of Illinois politicians and some regular folks with heartwarming and politically advantageous personal stories. Plus a video tribute to the ailing Ted Kennedy.

I wish I could sing a few bars of "There is a balm in Gilead" for you here. If I could, I would conclude by saying Obama is that balm.
And if he doesn't hurry up and take office, we all may need more than a balm.
Remember from history when George Washington said the new nation should avoid "foreign entanglements"? Dick Cheney was playing hooky from history class that day.
