Chesley no longer is supporting his beliefs - for some time now, he has been greasing the palms of people who have the power to keep him out of jail - simple as that. He needs to make friends with the crooked GOP in hopes they don't pull his license , take his precious money, or throw him in jail. He's a greedy, scared traitor who obviously never had any political values or common ethics. And it will work

WestEnder

I don't know what the status of the case is, but Chesley is one of the lawyers in the class action against Duke Energy, whose execs and board are aligned with the GOP. I wonder if that has motivated his attempt to get a little cozier with Republicans.

It's hard to imagine Schmidt having any power or influence, regardless.

Political Junkie

I think Stan might be doing favors for the GOP in hopes of getting the Justice Department off of his back. Rumor has it he could be facing federal charges because of all that fen-phen dealing.

I think it's interesting you mentioned Melinda. I believe she's Mr. Chesley's good friend as well.
