Kaup Makes the Cut

Joan Kaup, Charter Committee candidate for Cincinnati City Council, reports she is the first candidate to have her ballot petition approved by the Hamilton County Board of Elections.
Candidates need 500 valid signatures to win a place on the Nov. 6 ballot. Kaup had 543 of her 784 signatures validated.
Next week campaign-finance reports are due.
"My goal is to be in the top 10," Kaup says.

Isn't Ms. Kaup aka Mrs. Rick Pender? Does Mr. Pender still write for CityBeat?

Hello? Is this question too banal to merit a response?
I see Mr. Pender penned for CityBeat as late as May of this year.
Please do better than The Enquirer at disclosing conflicts of interest or the appearance thereof, if they exist.

Yes, Rick Pender writes regularly for CityBeat, and Joan Kaup is his wife. What conflict of interest do you have in mind?
Posted by: Gregory Flannery | July 12, 2007 at 12:35 PM
The same type of conflict The Enquirer has when reporting on Fountain Square and/or 3CDC without disclosing Margaret Buchanan's role in that organization.
The same type of conflict Lincoln Ware had when he was Sam Malone's campaign Media Advisor in 2003 and failed to disclose that material fact while discussing Malone's candidacy on WDBZ.
If the wife of a CityBeat contributor is a candidate for public office, CityBeat should disclose that when reporting on her campaign, postively, negatively or neutrally. This information, information being what I thought journalists bring forth, will allow your readers to evaluate CityBeat's reporting of her campaign and/or its endorsement of her should that happen, in a fuller context.
