That Was The Week That Was - In Blogs

Tie_fathers_day

Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there! Hey, you can always use another tie - act like you like it.

We all know that Lisa Simpson loves her dad despite the fact that Homer is a jerkass. Go to Jezebel for an explanation.

Is your dad a Republican? If he is, will you please ask him why his party is demonizing Michelle Obama? If you feel funny asking that question, read Maureen Dowd instead.

Dan Savage is a gay man but he’s also a father. Have a great day, Dan, but I wish you would explain to me why everyone at your Slog Blog is presumed faggy until proven innocent.

The Citizens for Community Values (CCV), a fine group of mothers and fathers (Happy Father’s Day to all you CCV dads out there!), don't want us to see naked people. They have declared war on euphemisms. The Cincinnati Dealer gives us a full report.

Is Uncle Woody a father? Well, at least we know he’s an uncle but his bar in Clifton is now closed. Cincinnati Blog fills us in.

This will be a sad Father’s Day for the Tim Russert family. The anchor of “Meet the Press” died of a heart attack on Friday. To read more about this fine journalist, go to The Huffington Post or if you don't think he was fine, go to The Cincinnati Nation. Different strokes for different folks.

A lot of dads, including me, like good local music and WNKU’s summertime live music series “Studio 89” is back! Spill It tells us more.

I wonder if John McCain likes music - I don't know.  What I do know is that he likes his “town hall” meetings stacked with supporters. Crooks and Liars report on “Mr. McSame.”

Happy Father’s Day to McCain anyway. His daughter Meghan has already given him the perfect gift for the day: She has finally registered Republican! Wonkette gives us this very special story.

Gotta go. The kids will be coming over soon and I need to put on my I just love that tie face.

I was more than a little surprised to read The Cincinnati Nation's take on the death of Tim Russert.

Russert wasn't a god. He was a newsman and the media has gone way overboard in the coverage of his death. That's where I agree with The Cincinnati Nation.

What I don't agree with is the personal attack. Pompous? Obese? What's the point in saying that in a "headline?" It's just plain mean and yes, very, very pompous.

The tone at CincyNation on Russert's death is a little mean but it is a little odd to interrupt programming to tell of his death. One would think that a new war had broken out.

Hold it, folks. The only reason we'd mentioned Russert's obesity is because it's a major risk factor for coronary heart disease.

Russert's father died young from heart disease, which should have forced the NBC News reporter to take better care of himself.

tim certainly wasn't tiny tim.

CincyNation has updated their site but there's no letup on Russert. I can't say I was ever a fan of his. NBC is treating him like the Pope is dead.

Rick -- Big Russ is still alive, no?

Yes, indeed. His father may still be alive, certainly didn't pass away at a younger age.

I apologize. Was obviously given wrong information.

russert: great son and a great father. as a journalist: more or less a tool.
