Thinking of Those "Real People"
It feels good to be settling into my new place and what a pleasure it was to finally unpack some of my books last week. It was like revisiting old friends.
For some months now, all my books written by Richard Ford have been in storage. Not any more – top shelf, first bookcase. I’m rereading his short story collection “Rock Springs.” Like a fine wine, each story gets better with the passing of time.
It’s now been over two years since I first visited with the Fords in Maine. Click here to read about the great time I had.
Mr. Ford recently changed book publishers and I’m curious as to why this happened, so I need to be calling him soon. He also recently had a short story published in The New Yorker. Click here to read it.
Richard and his wife Kristina are “real people” and when I say that I mean real nice. Unpacking those books last week let me remember that.

I enjoyed rereading your essay.
Ford is a hell of a writer. "The Lay of the Land" is one of his best.
