It's Always Something

Stirring_soup

On Saturday, I went into my kitchen to fix myself some lunch - was going to have some soup. My new stove that replaced the very old one that didn't work, also now wasn't working. I think when the maintenance man came in to finally get me some hot water in my bathroom; he did something to the gas line connected to the water heater. Whatever it was, it killed the stove.

I now can take a warm shower, but now I can't fix myself something to eat.

Of course I have a microwave, but it also doesn't work. You see the one I brought with me when I moved downtown was too powerful for the electric circuits. My landlord gave me a smaller one – but again, it doesn't work.

It’s always something.

From June through August, I couldn’t listen to my stereo, because there weren’t enough electrical outlets in my study. That has recently been fixed.

Also on the plus side, my coffee maker is no longer in my bedroom. This was resolved by adding additional outlets in my kitchen. Also starting this month I have been able to plug in my toaster.

When people ask me how it’s going for me downtown, I probably send off mixed signals – like my living space. I’m living in one of the oldest apartment buildings in Cincinnati. It has character and charm and I have plenty of room. It’s a neat old building.

But I want everything to work.

I know where you live. While it's a cool old building, that's not enough to make it livable. Tenants have rights. Demand them!

sounds like living downtown is no different than living in clifton. i got landlords that don't do jackshit.

"But I want everything to work."

What an unreasonable person you are - expecting a stove and hot water at the same time

:)

when i moved into my pad a few years ago, the shower water would ONLY run at scalding temperature. The landlord at the time (we since have a new one, a good one) told me to bring cold water in from the kitchen, mix it w/ the scalding and take a bath instead. unbelievable.

i learned to deal directly w/ maintenance after that...get in good w/ the fix-it guys has been my approach. offer them beer and smokes, and you'll have the shit workin in no time. : )

my two cents.

Why don't you give us the name of the place you're renting from so the rest of us will know to stay away?

Not providing you with a working stove or not being able to use a microwave is not reasonable. Keep track of your out of pocket expenses on this and deduct it from your rent.

Better yet, maybe you should move.

No stove, no microwave, no hot water equals NO RENT.

My experience with landlords is if you're not in their face constantly, they ignore you. That's sad but it's the truth. Stay on their ass!

You've invited me up and yeah, a great apartment - perfect for living downtown. But no stove, no microwave and for so much of the time so real hot water?

It's bullshit, Larry. You're trying to be nice because you know the people who manage it. What's that getting you?

Bad, bad landlord. If you're still paying rent , stop. They need to address these issues and very quickly.

Wow. What total bullshit. They should be paying YOU to live there.
