In spite of the nature of our divided government, occasionally things go well for the people.
This is the exception rather than the rule, however. Partisan politics is the great distractor from getting things done in this country. It appeals to people's base "us versus them" nature (think sports, business, war etc.) and makes Beating Those Guys the top priority.
No matter which team you're on, if there are only two teams, you're bound to lose.
